ClipNest Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

ClipNest is a browser extension for saving, organizing, and reusing copied text, links, and images. ClipNest is designed to keep your saved clipboard data locally in your browser profile. No account is required.

Information ClipNest handles

ClipNest stores copied text, links, images, favorites, named groups, group membership, and your extension settings in Chrome extension storage on your device. Clipboard items can contain sensitive information depending on what you copy.

When webpage copy capture is enabled, ClipNest detects user-initiated copy actions on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS pages. It excludes recognized password and one-time-code inputs from this webpage selection capture. It cannot identify the source field when reading the system clipboard, so clipboard imports could still contain passwords or other sensitive information.

Clipboard access

When “Sync clipboard on open” is enabled, ClipNest reads the current clipboard when its popup opens. You can also select “Sync” to import the current clipboard manually. You can turn off automatic syncing and pause webpage capture in Settings. ClipNest does not continuously record keystrokes.

Storage and control

Saved clips and settings remain in local Chrome extension storage. You can delete individual clips, remove groups, or clear unpinned history. Favorites and clips in groups may be retained during normal history cleanup. Backups that you choose to export can contain saved clipboard contents and group information; protect those files accordingly.

ClipNest does not operate an account-based sync service and does not send saved clipboard history to a ClipNest server. Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored extension data according to Chrome's data-removal behavior.

Optional website link previews

When you explicitly select “Load preview” for a saved HTTPS link, ClipNest requests information from that website and may request an image from its preview-image host. Those servers can see your IP address and the requested URL. Browser cookies, credentials, and referrers are omitted from preview requests. URLs can contain private tokens, so avoid previewing sensitive links. Preview metadata and images may be cached locally for a limited period.

Optional browser history view

If you select Browser history and grant Chrome's optional history permission, ClipNest can show and search visited websites from your browser profile. These results are kept temporarily in memory while the view is open, are not automatically saved as clipboard clips, and are not transmitted to a ClipNest server. You can revoke the permission through Chrome's extension settings.

Optional active browsing time

If you enable active browsing-time tracking and grant the optional idle permission, ClipNest estimates time spent actively browsing each website hostname. It excludes private windows and internal pages, stops counting when the browser is unfocused or you are idle, and stores today's hostname totals locally. It does not save full page URLs or titles for this feature. You can disable tracking or clear the totals in Settings. These totals are not included in backups.

Optional image text recognition

ClipNest can recognize text inside saved images using its bundled optical character recognition (OCR) components. OCR runs locally, and recognized text is stored with the corresponding saved image. Images are not uploaded to an external OCR service.

Optional Windows clipboard-history import

On Windows, you may separately install the ClipNest Windows Bridge and grant optional native-messaging access to import supported items from Windows clipboard history. This integration is off by default. Imported text and images are transferred locally to ClipNest and stored as clips. ClipNest also stores a limited local record of recently imported Windows clipboard IDs to avoid reimporting deleted entries. ClipNest and Windows maintain separate histories: clearing one does not automatically clear the other. You can disable future imports in Settings or uninstall the bridge.

Advertising, analytics, and sharing

ClipNest does not include advertising, analytics, or user tracking services and does not sell saved clipboard data. Apart from requests made for user-initiated link previews, the extension does not send your saved clips to third-party servers.
